We Cannot Look Away
REESHA is convinced that hunger lies at the core of human suffering.
At the time of writing, extreme hunger is a painful reality for nearly 20 million Afghans. In 2022 alone, approximately 13,700 newborns died due to the lack of nutrition. Every single one of them, being one too many.
Afghanistan is in an economic crisis. According to the UNDP around 97% of the Afghan population are at imminent risk of falling below the poverty line.
As a direct consequence, selling organs to earn money has become so commonplace that long lines form in front of hospitals. Because of this trend, the price for a kidney has dropped from $3,500-$4,000 to less than $1,500.
Moreover, amid desperate efforts to find food, children are sold for around $830, and marriages are arranged for approximately $200-$300.
But what can you and we do to help?
With your donations, we can buy, make, and provide food. With your support like spreading awareness on social media, more people will find out about REESHA’s work.
This essential aid helps lift the Afghans we serve out of the hunger crisis, and undermines the ability of human traffickers and organ merchants to prey on vulnerable families.
REESHA has already fed hot meals to more than 6000+ internally displaced people (IDP) in Afghanistan. Additionally, REESHA is providing long-term support for 10 IDP families by sponsoring them, covering their nutrition needs and subsidizing their rent on a monthly basis.
We need your assistance, and with our collective effort, we can continue to provide food and shelter to Afghans living in extreme poverty. We prioritize the families of widow mothers, orphan children, and elderly grandparents who are the sole caregivers of their recently orphaned grandkids.
With your help, we can serve the 118 internally displaced families on our waiting list and who are in urgent need of help.
We cannot look away. And that is why we need to help.
